What Is Medicina Sufletului? A Practitioner Explains

When Nothing Else Explains How You Feel

You've done everything right. Therapy. Doctors. The books, the journaling, the self-reflection. And there's still this weight. Sitting in your chest, your gut, somewhere you can't quite point to. Nobody's been able to name it. But you feel it every single day.

You're not imagining it.

I know this because I was that person. Before I became a certified Medicina Sufletului practitioner, I was the one sitting with that unnamed heaviness -- not looking for spirituality, not looking for something "alternative." Just looking for something that actually worked when everything else had run out of answers.

Here's the thing most conventional approaches miss: the body doesn't just process emotions and move on. It stores them. Not as a metaphor -- literally. Grief that never got to finish, fear that had nowhere to go, shock that got pushed down because life couldn't stop. Think of it like water that has no drain. It doesn't disappear. It just sits there, and over time it starts seeping into everything -- your sleep, your body, your relationships, that low hum of anxiety that has no obvious source.

Medicina Sufletului works directly with that stored emotional energy. So let me tell you what it actually is, because the name sounds poetic, and I've seen people dismiss it before they understand what they're really looking at.

What Medicina Sufletului Actually Is

Medicina Sufletului translates from Romanian as "soul healing." But honestly, the name matters less than what the method does.

It's a structured therapeutic approach developed by Tatiana Popa that uses high-vibration prayer and the intentional healing power of words to identify and release trapped emotional energies from the body. The core idea is straightforward: unresolved emotions, stored in the body over years or even generations, sit at the root of a huge amount of physical and emotional suffering.

That's not a fringe idea. Somatic therapists, trauma researchers, and epigeneticists have been building the case for it for decades. What Medicina Sufletului offers is a specific, repeatable protocol for actually releasing those stored energies -- not just understanding them intellectually, which, if you've been in therapy a while, you know isn't always enough.

And it's not magic. There's no vague "good vibes only" energy here. A session follows a defined protocol with specific steps. The practitioner uses kinesiological testing to identify what's present, works through a structured process to release it, and uses intentional language as the healing tool. It's disciplined, careful work.

It also doesn't replace classical medicine. If you have a diagnosed condition, you keep working with your doctor. This method works alongside conventional treatment -- addressing the emotional and energetic layer that medicine often doesn't have tools for. (I want to be really clear about that, because I care about people getting the full support they need, not trading one thing for another.)

If you want the full overview of the method itself, the soul healing method page goes deeper into the foundations.

Who Created It and Why That Matters

Tatiana Popa is the founder of Medicina Sufletului. She drew on established work in emotional healing -- including Bradley Nelson's Emotion Code, which maps how trapped emotions are stored in the body and how they can be released -- and built her own structured method from those foundations. What she added is the use of high-vibration prayer as the primary release tool.

The method has grown into a formal certified training program. And here's something worth knowing if you're considering working with a practitioner: I, Andreea Sas, am the 8th certified Medicina Sufletului practitioner in the world. That's not a large number. The training is rigorous, the certification is real, and the community of practitioners is still small.

Tatiana Popa herself is now fully booked. Her waiting list is long, and access to her directly has become genuinely difficult. So working with a certified practitioner isn't a compromise -- the training is designed to pass the method on faithfully, and that's exactly what it does.

You can read more about my training and background on the about page if you want to know who you'd be working with before you decide anything.

How a Session Works, Step by Step

Most people come to their first session not knowing what to expect. That's completely normal. So let me walk you through it.

A session has three phases.

The first is diagnosis. I use kinesiological testing -- sometimes called muscle testing -- to identify what emotional energies are present and where they're stored. Think of it like asking the body a series of yes/no questions. The body responds differently to true and false statements, and that response points us toward specific emotional charges. It sounds unusual if you've never encountered it, but it's a well-established technique used across multiple healing disciplines.

The second phase is identification. Once we've located something, we get specific. What emotion is it? When did it originate? Is it personal, or does it come from an ancestral line? (And yes -- both are possible. A fear that belonged to your grandmother can sit in your nervous system just as clearly as one you formed yourself. That still surprises people when they first hear it, but it's one of the things the science is starting to confirm.)

The third phase is release. This is where high-vibration prayer comes in. I want to be precise about what that means, because "prayer" carries a lot of assumptions. In this context, it's intentional, directed language used as a healing tool. It's not a religious ritual. It doesn't require any particular belief. It's more like using specific words with specific intent to signal to the body: it's safe to let this go now.

Throughout the session, I also work to activate a protective energetic shield, clear unfavorable energies, and reset what Tatiana Popa calls the heart's memory. Think of the heart's memory as the emotional record the body has been quietly keeping for years. Resetting it doesn't erase your history -- it releases the charge attached to it. Like finally draining that water I mentioned earlier.

Sessions happen via Zoom, so location doesn't matter. If you have practical questions about what to expect, the frequently asked questions page covers a lot of the common ones.

The Science Sitting Behind the Spirituality

I'm not going to pretend Medicina Sufletului is a peer-reviewed clinical protocol. It isn't. But I also won't pretend it exists in a scientific vacuum, because that's not honest.

Epigenetics has shown us that trauma doesn't just affect the person who experienced it. It can change gene expression in ways that pass down through generations. Your body may be carrying emotional patterns that were never yours to begin with. The research on this is real, and it's growing.

Somatic therapy has established that the body stores emotional experience in tissue, in the nervous system, in chronic physical tension. Bessel van der Kolk's work on trauma and the body is probably the most widely known example -- but it's part of a much larger body of research all pointing in the same direction.

So here's my honest read on it: Medicina Sufletului sits at the intersection of what science is increasingly describing and a spiritually-informed healing practice. It works with what researchers are mapping, using tools that science hasn't fully caught up to yet. That tension doesn't bother me. The best healing I've witnessed -- in myself and in clients -- has always lived a little ahead of what can be fully explained.

If you want to go deeper on the epigenetic side, I wrote about it in the post on epigenetics and ancestral trauma. And if you're trying to understand what emotional blockages actually feel like in the body, the piece on energy blockages and why you feel stuck is a good companion read.

What People Actually Come to Heal

The people who find their way to a soul healing session don't usually arrive with a tidy diagnosis. They arrive with descriptions.

"I've felt anxious my whole life and I don't know why." "I keep ending up in the same kind of relationship no matter what I do." "I've been grieving for years and it still feels just as raw." "My body hurts in ways that no scan has ever explained." "I feel completely disconnected from myself, like I'm watching my own life from a distance."

Those are real things people say. I hear them all the time. And they're exactly the kinds of experiences this method is built to work with.

Chronic anxiety. Unexplained physical symptoms. Recurring emotional patterns. Unprocessed grief. Emotional numbness. A persistent feeling that something is blocking you even when your external life looks fine. These are the common threads. The method works on recent wounds and on deeper ancestral patterns, because both can be present -- and often are.

If any of that sounds familiar, it might be worth exploring what a session actually involves. You can see how sessions are structured and what's included on the healing sessions page.

Is Medicina Sufletului Right for You?

Honestly? I can't answer that for you. But I can tell you who tends to get the most from it.

It's usually people who've already done some work on themselves. They're not starting from zero. They've been in therapy, done their own reading and reflecting, made real progress. But there's still something that won't shift. Something sitting underneath the insight, underneath all the understanding, underneath all the effort.

That's the layer this method reaches.

It does require openness -- not belief in any particular spiritual framework, but a willingness to approach the process without resistance. And it's not passive. You're not just lying there while something happens to you. The awareness you bring matters. The willingness to feel what comes up matters. But you don't have to have it all figured out before you start. Nobody does.

Some people feel a noticeable shift quickly. Others find the changes unfold more gradually over the weeks that follow. So it's not a quick fix, and I won't tell you it is. But it's real work that moves something real.

If you're curious but not sure, the best starting point is just a conversation. You can reach me through the contact page and ask whatever you need to ask before committing to anything. (No pressure, no pitch. Just a real conversation about whether this makes sense for where you are.)

And the thought I want to leave you with isn't really a summary -- it's something I keep coming back to myself.

So much of what we carry isn't even ours. The grief that got handed down. The fear that formed before you had words for it. The patterns that belong to a story older than you are. Energy healing -- at its best -- isn't about becoming a different person. It's about setting down what was never yours to carry in the first place.

And once you know that's possible? It changes how you look at everything.
